Area Police
Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then located numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important political figure stated the attack made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
